Getting Started
Install, connect alerts, and verify everything with a test alert in under 10 minutes.
What you need
- Shopify store with admin access Blind Spot Monitor app installed At least one notification channel (Email or Webhook)
Install and connect
- 1
Install the app
Add Blind Spot Monitor from the Shopify App Store and open the embedded app. The MVP does not request protected merchant-data scopes.
- 2
Confirm the first checks
Blind Spot automatically creates storefront and checkout-reachability monitors. The dashboard stays in Waiting for first checks until both have real, current results.
- 3
Pick an alert channel
Go to Integrations → Add Channel and connect at least one destination. Email and Webhooks are available on all plans; Slack and SMS are available on Pro. If you’re on Pro, add a backup channel.
- 4
Add any extra coverage
The two baseline monitors are already configured. Use Monitors → Create Monitor for additional HTTP endpoints, scripts, or vendor status pages.
- 5
Send a test alert (required for activation)
Go to Settings → Send Test Alert. The dashboard only shows Protection active after the email provider accepts a Fire Drill and monitor results are current. Provider acceptance does not prove inbox placement, so confirm the first message in the destination inbox too.
Tip: Add a backup channel (Pro)
For critical paths (checkout, high-traffic landing pages), route CRITICAL/HIGH alerts to two channels so you don’t miss a failure if one vendor is down.
Optional: protect ad spend (Pro)
If paid traffic is a big lever for your store, set up Meta Ads and/or Google Ads Guardrails in Automations to pause allowlisted campaigns when checkout incidents open and resume on recovery.
Monitor types
Monitor any URL. You can match a single expected status code (default 200) or a list of acceptable codes.
Watch third-party status pages (e.g., platforms you depend on) and alert when they report an incident or degradation.
Confirm critical scripts are present on your storefront page (for example, tracking pixels or essential widgets).
The default HTTP monitor checks checkout entry reachability. Pro can check configured checkout endpoints in sequence; it does not place a real order. Full purchase validation is not part of the current MVP.
Advanced options
- Intervals: Free plan checks every 15 minutes or longer; Pro supports 60s.
- Channels: Free plan supports one channel; Pro supports multiple channels.
- Monitor limits: Free supports up to 5 active monitors; Pro supports up to 50 monitors. If you downgrade from Pro, extra monitors become locked (you can choose which 5 stay active in Monitors).
- Routing: Target specific channels per monitor and severity to reduce noise.
- Quiet hours (Pro): Suppress non-critical alerts during selected hours; critical alerts still get through.
- Escalation (Pro): Escalate unacknowledged incidents after your chosen delay.
- Revenue impact (optional): Add your AOV/traffic/conversion in Settings to include estimated impact in alerts.
